Are you a full-time RVer that is searching for a home state? Have you received changing or inconsistent advice from your fellow RVers? What is the best approach when RVing and State Residency is on your mind?
We receive questions like the above from RVers all the time. Many of the former ‘friendly’ RV states have implemented new regulations making it tougher for RVers to claim residency in any one particular state. In fact, one of the most traditionally RV friendly states, Texas (Is Florida the Only Tax Haven with Good Weather?), has recently implemented a new residency law that makes it more complex to become a Texas resident. States such as South Dakota, Oregon, and Texas have long been anchor states for the RVing population. In fact, many services exist in these states, each with a purpose toward easing the hurdles in establishing residency for RVers. Items such as mail, permanent address, voter registration, etc. can be helped along with mail services, club membership, or absentee ballots. The somewhat simple tasks a house dweller may have can become much more complex for those living in an RV.
For those that enjoy travel though, these hurdles can be worth the freedom of changing scenery, new friends, and life on the road. So what is an RVer to do, other than asking for advice from fellow RVers? ResidencyHQ caters to the RVing crowd, not only because of a shared interest in travel, but also because it is the RVing lifestyle that nearly personifies why our company was founded. The ability to travel and spend time, either in just a couple of states or in many, is the right of every American. The ability to declare domicile in a state that you consider home, should also be a right for anyone willing to live by that state’s laws and abide by their rules. What is challenging though, especially in a day and age where state governments are trying to find ways to generate more tax revenues, is that the other states where we might spend time want a piece of our tax revenues as well. The time spent in other states can be pleasurable when visiting, but a burden on taxes and your financial health if you haven’t taken the rights steps toward residency in what you consider your permanent state of residence.
Please contact us today at info@ResidencyHQ.com to discuss what work we can do for you and your RV friends. Our suite of services were built specifically with RVers in mind. RVing is too fun to constantly have residency as a concern!
